If your veterinarian says your dog has developed hypothyroidism, this means your dog's thyroid gland is not producing the required quantity of the thyroid hormone. There are several different reasons your dog may develop hypothyroidism. The most common being a genetic disease known as autoimmune thyroiditis (or lymphocytic thyroiditis). Dogs are born with a normal functioning thyroid, which usually starts to act up at age 5 to 6 years. This makes detecting the disease harder since it is often confused with aging. Directions:
Administer orally 0.1 to 0.2 mg per 10 pounds initially, dosage is then adjusted by monitoring T-4 blood levels every 4 weeks.
